Welcome to "ALL THE VILLAGE IS SCARED",

an evocative photo exhibition where the monochromatic hues of black and white serve as a canvas for exploring the depths of the human psyche.  The exhibition is a juxtaposition of two photographer's work, an attempt to explore the recesses of the mind, extracting fragments of dreams and memories to weave into tangible forms. It delves into the realm of dreams and the subconscious. The title itself evokes a sense of dissonance and disconnection, inviting viewers to turn on their imagination and associations. In "ALL THE VILLAGE IS SCARED" images serve as windows into the soul, capturing fleeting moments of introspection and reverie. The choice of black and white photography lends a timeless quality to the exhibition, stripping away the distractions of color to reveal the raw emotions that lie beneath the surface.

Delia Vair is a self-taught visual artist based in Berlin. She uses photography to explore facets of the self, intertwined with themes of fetishism, the subconscious, and the notion of the outsider. Fascinated by the realm of dreams and ancient memories, she evokes images on the verge of reality that echo a sense of melancholy and vulnerability. She uses self-portraiture among other techniques.

With a background in design and architecture, she explored different means of visual expression. In 2019 she began to use photography to capture the emotional realm of Shibari, Japanese rope bondage, a practice she passionately engages in. From this documentary approach evolved an interest in a narrative, conceptual mode of expression. Her work is a reflection on the experience of struggling with inner and outer demons.

Daria Kanishcheva studied at the Academy of Art in St. Petersburg before moving to Berlin in 2012, where she in 2022 completed her study in Art History at Humboldt University. Mostly focused on photography, the Russian artist often utilizes double exposure to explore the limits between reality and dreams. The blurry-soft and dreamy-toned pictures capture the little ordinary things in Daria’s daily life. With the unique lo-fi quality of her analog camera, each scene represents a mysterious and slightly melancholic story depicting the artist’s private sphere surrounded by friends, nature and strangers.
